New Road Signs
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has installed new flashing driver alert signs in Fillmore County, aiming to enhance safety for both motorists and Amish buggies. The signs are the first of their kind deployed by the department. The new alert system is located on Highway 44 between Mabel and Canton, a section of road characterized by narrow shoulders and guardrails. The primary goal of these signs is to increase driver awareness of Amish buggies present on the roadway, thereby working to prevent accidents and improve overall road safety. MnDOT officials stated that this innovative system is a pioneering effort for the department in addressing specific safety concerns in areas with Amish communities.
