Motorists traveling on Interstate 94 this summer can expect delays in central Minnesota, with traffic reduced to single lane in both directions in two stretches. The Minnesota Department of Transportation say bridge repair and upgrade work will start in two locations between Melrose and Sauk Centre in Stearns County on Tuesday, May 26, and last through late October. Two eastbound bridges over the Sauk River will be repaired this summer, with the westbound bridges to be repaired next summer. MnDOT says the interstate will be reduced to single-lane, head-to-head traffic over the bridges. In the construction zones, traffic speed will be limited to 60 mph, with drivers encouraged to stay in both lanes until the closure goes into effect and then zipper merge. The freeway will return to two lanes in time for the winter season, before similar closures go into effect next summer.
